Students who will be attending Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine will be welcomed in a White Coat Ceremony.

The event will be held Thursday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center on Fifth Avenue in Huntington.

Sixty-six students will receive white coats and take a physician's oath.

School of Medicine alumni and friends bought the coats and have also donated funding for book purchases and medical instruments.

Drs. Joseph and Omayma Touma have  donated funds to give students a new stethoscope.

Some students will be given their coats by a family member or friend who has a doctoral degree in health care.

Dr. Joseph Evans, is this year's special guest speaker.

The event is invitation only.
