National Farmer's Market Day Celebrated in WV

Between the flooding in the south and the drought in the Midwest, some crops are in trouble but not in our area.

Which has made it a great time to celebrate National Farmers' Market Week in West Virginia.

The mountain state's Department of Agriculture is hosting a corn roast at the Capitol Farmers' Market to celebrate.

Despite the shortage of rain, farmers have been filling the farmers markets in every corner of West Virginia.

Agriculture Commissioner Gus Douglass says urban parts of the state and getting back in touch with their rural side.

The farm folks out there had a good nutrition level," said Douglass. "The folks in the city are finding that and this has just developed a tremendous business for West Virginia agriculture.

There are more than 150 farmers' markets in operation in West Virginia every year.
