Preps begin for Huntington Rib and Music Fest

Crews were hard at work Monday getting Harris Riverfront Park ready for the annual Huntington Rib and Music Fest.

Workers began unloading and setting up some of the large tents for people to use as a shelter to pig out on some of the best ribs in the country.

The event starts Thursday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. and includes an inflatable play zone for kids, a media rib eating contest at 7 p.m., and music by the Led Zeppelin tribute band, "Get the Led Out, The American Led Zeppelin" at 7:30 p.m.

Friday's events start with free lunchtime admission from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. with music by the legendary Chubby Checker starting at 8 p.m.

Saturday hosts a number of events including powerboat races at noon, the Texaco Country Showdown at 5 p.m., Ribfest Awards at 7:30 and music by Lindsay McKay and Collin Raye starting at 8 p.m.

The event wraps up Sunday with boat racing finals starting at noon.

Gates close at 5 p.m.

Admission is $5 per day and kids under five get in free.
