Chesapeake, OH, family escapes house fire thanks to neighbors

A family is left without a home after fire ripped through their home in Chesapeake, Ohio.

Chesapeake firefighters responded to the blaze around 2:30 a.m. Monday

The State Fire Marshal says it appears the fire started in a space above the kitchen right under where the family's two daughters slept.

Gary Dillon, who lives there, says the family was asleep when a neighbor saw flames shooting from the side of the house and woke them by banging on the door.

Dillon says smoke alarms then went off and he and his wife got their three children out as fast as they could.

He says the walls were double insulated which kept the fire from spreading through the house.

Dillon says the State Fire Marshal told him the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
