The return of school means people need to be aware of school buses and children near the road.

Greenup County Sheriff Keith Cooper says a lot of people that do not have kids fail to realize when school has started.

He says people need to be aware of stopped buses and adhere to the stop sign on the sides of buses.

Cooper adds that in many areas, rural roads are an added danger because many are so narrow.

Law enforcement recommends people be extra careful when buses or children may be near.

"The kids have other things on their mind so we as responsible adults driving vehicles have to be aware," said Cooper.

Cooper says his department will have additional deputies near school zones the first few days of school to help make people aware school is back in session.
