Three escape massive fire in a home on Walnut Street in Kanawha County
The body of a man who drowned near Kanawha Falls in Fayette County last week was recovered Tuesday afternoon.
David Jones, 47, of Powellton, was found about a mile downstream from where he was believed to have gone swimming last week, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
Crews had searched for Jones since about 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.
Jones was trying to swim across the Kanawha River when he disappeared, according to the Sheriff's Office.
"Although it appears to have drowned, only the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner can determine a formal cause and manner of death," Sheriff Steve Kessler told our sister station, WVNS-TV.
