Utility companies decided they need to revamp some of their programs to better distribute service across Ohio.

Under its new Electric Security Plan, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio now includes many of the provisions necessary to deliver service reliably, economic growth, and energy efficiency, according to American Electric Power and its AEP Ohio operating unit in a press release.

"We respect the Ohio Commission's decision to accelerate the move to full competition, but have consistently emphasized the need for a reasonable transition that maintains the health of AEP Ohio," said Nicholas K. Akins, AEP president and chief executive officer in that same release. "Today's Commission order...provides more clarity on the timing and specifics of the transition."

The PUCO did not rule on the company's proposal to officially separate its generation and wire assets in Ohio.

Additionally, the PUCO approved a method for AEP Ohio to delay recovery of storm costs until "prudence" reviews are finished.
