A man accused of killing and dismembering his co-worker's body tried to commit suicide, according to South Central Regional Jail officials.
Charles March was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
"He climbed up to the second tier and climbed up on the railing and fell over backwards, intentionally, apparently trying to commit suicide. However, on his way down, it appears he landed on his feet, and sustained some injuries but certainly not life threatening injuries," said Joe Delong, acting Executive Director of the West Virginia Regional Jail Authority.
Delong said March never showed any signs that he was suicidal, until now.
He said a suicide note was found at the scene and handed over to the Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office.
"The note alluded to the fact of wanting to go to heaven or something along those lines. That's been turned over to the Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office at this time," Delong said.
March's criminal problems haven't gone away, but they have been delayed.
As soon as he's released from the hospital, he'll be evaluated by the jail's medical unit.
"He'll be assessed and the medical unit will determine the appropriate housing for him which could be being put on suicide watch or other areas," Delong said.
March's arraignment has been rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 17.
