CHARLESTON, West Virginia -

Many of us thought it, but now it is official, July 2012 was the hottest month on record.

For the country as a whole the average temperature was 77.6 degrees. That is slightly higher than the previous record holder which was back in 1936.

And to make things worse many people in West Virginia and across the country were without power and air conditioning for the beginning of July.

In West Virginia it was only the 5th hottest July on record. It was also one of the wettest with some areas seeing more than double their normal amount of rain.
