The 2012 Kanawha County Fair opens in less than a week and organizers are vowing to make it "bigger and better than ever," according to Kanawha County Commissioner Henry "Hoppy" Shores.

A Ferris Wheel is being planned, according to a news release. The fair is also working with a new carnival company in 2012. "We've got Gambill Amusements, which has one of the best reputations in the carnival business," said Shores in a news release.

Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under.

The fair will also feature a Living History demonstration, live farm animal exhibit from the FFA, the queen pageant and entertainment on the main stage.

Food vendors, crafters and children's programming from West Virginia State University's Extension Service will also be part of the entertainment.

Wrestling will take over the center stage on Saturday night. Organizers are also planning two ice cream socials, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, sponsored by Mayfield Dairy.

The Fair will be open an extra day this year. It begins on Wednesday, Aug. 15, and continues through Sunday, Aug. 19.
