Oxycodone case part of anti-prescription pill program

Posted: Updated:

A man pleaded guilty in federal court to distributing oxycodone.

According to U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin in a press release, Nathanael Thomas, 23, of Vienna, W.Va., admitted that he sold oxycodone pills to an agent working with the Parkersburg Violent Crime and Narcotics Task Force in exchange for $400 in May. He also confessed to selling oxycodone on several occasions earlier in the year.

This case is being pursued as part of a continuing effort headed by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illegal sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney's Office, alongside federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, stated that it is devoted to stopping illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and ending the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.

This case also falls under the Project Safe Neighborhoods. Project Safe Neighborhoods is a national commitment to stem gun crime in the United States by connecting local programs targeting gun crime.

Thomas faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced in December by U.S. District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.
