CHARLESTON, West Virginia -
A Putnam County family court judge who gained national attention earlier this year for screaming at families is charged with two ethics violations.
The order came down Friday morning from the state Supreme Court.
"I'm personally offended by this," said Watkins over the phone.
The court charges Watkins with violating several canons of the Judicial Code of Conduct when he did not return a ruling on a divorce case after being ordered to by the county circuit court. The Supreme Court filed paperwork demanding Watkins rule on the case or be held in contempt of court.
"I maintain I don't work for the circuit court," said Watkins. "When the Supreme Court told me to do it, I did it. I could be wrong. That doesn't make me unethical. That makes me wrong."
The Supreme Court also charges Watkins with not updating the domestic violence registry.
"No judge is more determined to stamp out domestic violence in this world. We have the highest case load in the county by far," said Watkins. "We need more staff. We need more help."
