The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission wants Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to leave it out of his request for most state agencies to trim their budgets by 7.5 percent for Fiscal Year 2014.
Tomblin's recent request would equate to a $35 million budget cut for the HEPC.
Commission Chairman David Hendrickson compared the request to asking a football team's star quarterback to take a salary cut, according to The Charleston Gazette.
Hendrickson said the commission wants to send a strong message to Tomblin that it cannot make any more budget cuts.
