Union workers at Special Metals Corp. Monday approved a new contract.

Members of United Steelworkers Local 40 voted 337-144 in favor of the new contract, according to a note on the union hall door. A union representative said most workers appeared happy with the latest proposal.

The union had been working under an extension of a contract that expired Friday, Aug. 10.

Workers spent most of the weekend reviewing the new deal, union officials said.

The union represents about 400 workers at the Huntington alloy plant.
