As thousands of elementary, middle and high school students head back to class, so are tens of thousands of college students.
Most students take expensive items with them like laptop computers, cell phones, ipads and furnishings for their dorm rooms and apartments.
Officials with AAA are warning students to see what items are covered under insurance policies. They also have some tips for students about things to do before move-in day.
"It's a good idea if in advance to have, you know, what they have spent on each thing. Not only for college students, but for homeowners as well," said Christina Rollyson with AAA Insurance.
They urge students and their parents to check with an insurance agent to find out which forms to fill out in order to ensure coverage against damage or theft.
