Huntington City Council wants public vote on residency

Posted:

Monday night Huntington City Council voted unanimously to put the general residency requirement on this year's ballot.

According to council member Jim Insco, the requirement was adopted in 1985 and states that anyone who works for the city must live in the city limits 90 days after being hired.

There was a lot of public debate from those who live just outside the city and continue to work in for the city.

Council agreed that it should be left up to a public vote on the November ballot.
