The U.S. Postal Service joined emergency responders and the City of Charleston to test their emergency preparedness response plans on Tuesday afternoon.

The exercise centered about what to do if a bio-hazard alert is issued at the post office.

It was a full-scale emergency exercise that included a full evacuation of the postal facility in downtown Charleston.

Officials said it's all about being prepared should they ever be faced with the real situation.

The Charleston Fire Department, Charleston Police Department, Kanawha County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Office of Emergency Management and the FBI also participated in Tuesday's exercise.
