Alzheimer's Disease affects thousands of families in West Virginia each year.
People came together for the first ever Alzheimer's Town Hall Meeting in Charleston on Tuesday. It was part of the new, national plan to address the disease.
The meeting served an opportunity to learn more about the services and help available for families. Many families also said it provided a chance for them to talk about what it's like to care for someone with Alzheimer's.
"A lot of people, once they hear the diagnosis of Alzheimer's, they kind of shy away or back away. They think the person has changed, but the person is still who they were," said Susan Young from South Charleston.
