Mitt Romney campaigns with coal miners in Ohio

Posted: Updated:

Mitt Romney said Tuesday the problems with the American economy are President Obama's fault.

The remarks came during this campaign stop in Beallsville, OH, at the Century Coal Mine.

Romney said 23 million Americans are unemployed and the president seems to be targeting coal as a bad thing.

Romney said he has five things he wants to do, and the first on the list is to take advantage of the energy sources we already have.

Many in the audience said they hope Romney will keep his word regarding coal.

The other four are: to rescue public education "which is failing our kids," develop a trade policy that works for America, balance the budget and encourage small business.

Romney was applauded by hundreds of coal miners brought in by buses.

He asked each member of the audience to convince one other person, once a month, to vote for him. Many offered their opinion on the Romney camp including former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.

Afterward, Romney went through the audience, shaking hands and posing for pictures, before making his exit and going on to his next campaign stop in Zanesville, OH. Romney ended the day of events in Ohio in Chillicothe.
