Alzheimer's disease can effect an entire family. To help cope with the struggles for caring for someone with the disease, Cabell Huntington Hospital hosts a support group.
This Tuesday's topic was a list of things that caregivers need to keep in mind. Along with making sure that the person with Alzheimer's has their will in order, it's important that a caregiver has their own taken care of.
Organizers also say it's important to keep yourself healthy when taking care of someone else and to take advantage of support groups.
"The importance of a support group, of having people who are in the same situation or have walked in their shoes, to come together and share and support each other. That's what a support group is all about,"said Joy Pelfrey who is director of Senior Services at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
The group meets at Cabell Huntington Hospital in the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center every second Tuesday of each month.
