Civil War re-enactment set at Greenbrier State Forest

Greenbrier County will be the site of the Battle of Dry Creek Civil War re-enactment Aug. 18-19 at Greenbrier State Forest in Caldwell.

This will be the 149th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Dry Creek, which was fought in August 1863 near White Sulphur Springs.

A tactical is scheduled on Saturday morning with infantry, cavalry and artillery participating. Additional activities on Saturday include a "live fire" cannon target competition, "School of the Soldier" for youngsters, cavalry polo match and night firing of the cannons at 9 p.m.

The camps will open to the public at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, and a church service will be held on site. The re-enactment of the Battle of Dry Creek will begin at 2 p.m. Reproduction and hand-made crafts, period clothing and other items from the 1860s will be sold on site throughout the event.
