Community leaders discuss disparities in minority health

Posted: Updated:

Community health leaders from across the state will join together Wednesday at the second annual Minority Health Forum.

Community activists, healthcare providers, and residents will aim to promote health equality for racial and ethnic minorities in West Virginia through public policy, community teamwork, and activism, according to a news release from the West Virginia Minority Health Forum.

The statement added that the meeting is being held because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention discovered gaping disparities in healthcare along ethnic and racial lines for diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, HIV, and chronic kidney disease.

The roundtable will take place at the Marriott in Charleston on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and  Thursday 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
