Scioto County, OH, sheriff warns of phone scams

Two telephone scams have affected a few people in Scioto County, Ohio, according to the Sheriff's Office.

As part of the scam, a caller tells those who answer the phone that the Sheriff's Office has a warrant for them and if they pay $500, they won't be arrested, according to a news release.

Neither the Sheriff's Office nor the Scioto County courts ever solicit in such a way on the telephone, the news release states.

In a similar scam, the caller tells the person who answer they phone they missed jury duty, according to the news release. That caller also says that for $500, the person will not be arrested.

The Sheriff's Office advised residents to ignore all such calls.
