Police set up patrols as classes resume

Posted: Updated:

The Charleston Police Department announced in a press release that their officers and the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department will provide more patrols in local school zones. The heightened enforcement will remind drivers to slow down in school zones.

Police said the faster you are driving, the longer the stopping distance and increase for a chance to injure a child.

Officers from both departments will take a zero tolerance approach for drivers who don't follow the local school zone limits. Officers will be watching for children arriving to school who are wearing seat belts. The patrols are part of the West Virginia Governor's Highway Safety Program.
