Advantage Toyota High School Football Preview: Hurricane

Posted: Updated:

Football is back at Hurricane High, but for the first time in nearly 10 years, the Redskins are sporting a new coach. Willis May has left for Florida and enter in Hurricane's former middle school head coach Jeremy Taylor.

"My philosophy is different," Hurricane Head Coach Jeremy Taylor said. "I try to make it a little bit simpler to some of our schemes that we do. Things that when you're an assistant coach you'd like to do but you can't do because you're not the head coach."

"He's been in here for a while now, since March," Hurricane senior receiver Zach Cooper added. "He's been in the weight room with us. He's gotten us excited to get out and play."

The Redskins return their quarterback, junior Austin Hensley. After a breakout sophomore year, Hensley is poised and maturing at perfect time.

"Last year I had to step up a lot too," Hensley said.  "As a sophomore, I had to lead a whole group. This year I just have to do the same thing. Just step up, and keep getting better and keep getting these guys better."

Even with just six seniors on this year's squad, Hurricane is still expecting some big results this year.

"I think we'll surprise a lot of people this year," Hurricane tight end Alex Wooford said.  "Just all the improvements we've made, the coaching staff and making us go a lot harder....we're going to do well."

"I want to go to Wheeling," coach Taylor said confidently. "I want to go to the Third round of the playoffs,. I want to host a semifinal game. That's our goals this year and if we cant reach that, then we didn't reach our goals."
