More than 100 salmonella cases reported in Kentucky in July

At least nine cases of salmonella have been reported in Carter County in July, according to officials with the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department.

Health officials said there was an unusually high amount of cases reported statewide with more than 100 people getting sick in July. The last case was reported July 26 and so far, no other cases have been reported.

Officials said they are conducting tests to see if any cases are related and are trying to track down the source of the outbreak.

They said it's best to wash all fruits and vegetables before eating to avoid contacting the virus.

They also recommend frequent hand washing to avoid contamination.

Anyone who experiences sickness and diarrhea for more than one day should contact the health department in their area.
