Members of area law enforcement say they are mourning the loss of officers killed in the line of duty.

Two sheriff's deputies in Louisiana were shot to death and two other deputies were injured in a Thursday morning shootout, west of New Orleans.  Two suspects were taken into custody.

An earlier this week, a police constable Brian Bachmann was killed after serving an eviction notice near Texas A&M University.

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies say they never know what they can expect when dealing with someone who is mentally ill, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or someone who has just committed a crime, such as murder.

"Until we've gotten in the car and left, either having had an arrest or after the situation is completely over, we have to prepare that someone might hurt us," said Lt. Sean Crosier, with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Crosier says members of law enforcement are trained to come up with tactics to minimize their exposure to someone who may want to hurt them.
