Authorities say three people have been
injured in a gas well fire and explosion in Harrison County. The flames
are out and there's no danger to the public.
Sgt. Heather Mick of the
Harrison County 911 Center said two victims were airlifted to Ruby
Memorial Hospital in Morgantown after the blast around 4 a.m. Friday in
the Sycamore area. A third was transported by ambulance.
Mick had no information about who the victims worked for or what their conditions were Friday morning.
Nor could she say which company owns the well involved.
The state Department of Environmental Protection has been notified.
Mick says the fire triggered the explosion.
Five volunteer fire companies eventually doused the flames. The well was in a rural area and not near any homes.
