Nationally recognized journalist and Marshall University graduate Burl Osborne has died.

Osborne graduated from Marshall with a journalism degree in 1960. He later worked as editor of the Ashland Daily Independent, as the one reporter for The Associated Press' Bluefield office and later as executive editor of The Dallas Morning News.

Osborne led the Dallas newspaper for 21 years, during which it won several Pulizer Prizes, according to his obituary on the paper's website. Osborne died late Wednesday at the University of Texas Southwester University Hospital at the age of 75.

Osborne hailed from Jenkins, Ky., according to the obituary. He first studied engineering at Marshall, but later changed to journalism.
