Wildlife challenge debuts at Kanawha State Forest

Posted: Updated:

A new wildlife challenge will debut at Kanawha State Forest on Saturday, Aug. 18.

The activity will prompt people to patiently watch nature, according to a press release.

"Wildlife will come to you if you can relax, put the cell down and watch," said Sara Miller, a summer naturalist at the forest, in a press release. "This isn't about quantity of attendees. It is about a quality experience."

Naturalists advise challenge-takers to wear earth-toned clothing and use scentless soap. The challenge is for people to sit quietly for long enough to watch wildlife that will wander by. Miller added she will have simple blinds and help participants determine how not to be seen or heard by wildlife, as well as how to choose the best areas to observe certain species.
