A phone scam is makings its way around West Virginia and it involves jury duty.

State Supreme Court Administrator Steve Canterbury said it started in Webster County. Some people are receiving recorded phone calls that say they've missed jury duty. As a result, they're being asked to pay their fine by credit card.

It's a scam. West Virginia's county court systems do not use phone calls to alert people if they've missed jury duty, according to Canterbury. He said that a deputy is usually sent to make a personal visit with a summons for them to appear to explain why they missed jury duty instead.

The state Attorney General's Office has been notified and is investigating.
