The Kanawha County Republican Executive Committee chose a candidate to replace magistrate Carol A. Fouty on the general election ballot Saturday morning.
Members chose John Jarman to replace Fouty's name on ticket for Kanawha County magistrate come November. Jarman is the editor of Town & Country publications in Clendenin. He has a history in law enforcement.
"This is a big decision. It's a huge decision when anybody decides to go into the world of politics," said Tim Morris, the chairman of the Kanawha County Republican Executive Committee. "As a magistrate, you're dealing with people's lives."
The State Election Commission agreed to allow Republicans to nominate another candidate earlier this week. Now the committee must submit Jarman's name by Monday.
Jarman joins Mike Sisson, Dianna Graves, and Bob Keller-- the three other Republican candidates on the ballot for county magistrate.
"I'm excited about having another viable candidate on the ballot," Graves said. "I know people expressed concern it will divide votes, but I think the more qualified people we can present as a choice to the people of Kanawha County, the better."
"I can do nothing but support the party," Sisson said. "It's all about being fair and just."
