Sex offender accused of failing to register, could spend 10 years in prison

CHARLESTON, West Virginia -

A sex offender who moved to a Crum neighborhood could spend 10 years in federal prison, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin's office.

Tammy Payton, 42, was convicted of rape in 2001. She moved to West Virginia in 2007 and did not register with sex offender registry, the news release states.

In addition to a prison sentence, Payton could also get a $250,000 fine. 

She is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 19.
