Three escape massive fire in a home on Walnut Street in Kanawha County
Danielle Childers, of Carter County, Ky., took several pictures of the dogs, concerned they were not being feed or given water and were abandoned.
"These were called into me because the owners moved away and nobody knew if they were coming back or anything," said Childers.
Carter County Animal Control Officer Sherman Sparks said the dogs were not abandoned, adding a relative of the property owner has taken the dogs until the family can put a new trailer on the site
"The animals were not in bad condition. They were in good condition. I checked them Saturday morning. I checked them Sunday afternoon then I checked again this morning (Monday), said Sparks.
"They had stale bread to eat. They couldn't even eat it because it was so hard," said Childers.
Childers said contacting Carter County Animal Control for situations like this is easier said than done, but Sparks said he one person covering the third largest county in Kentucky and it gets frustrating.
"Especially when you're trying to do stuff and everyone wants you to do their now," said Sparks.
Sparks adds that state law prevents him from going on private property, pointing out he has to go through the court system and law enforcement.
"The county needs to get me a cell phone. I need one. I don't even have a radio in my truck," said Sparks.
