A woman from Putnam County will spend more than three years in prison for tax evasion.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Georgiana Ciavarello, 40, admitted in May to embezzling more than $759,000 from the Quail Ridge Construction Company in Charleston, were she was a bookkeeper.

Between Sept. 2007 and Nov. 2010, Ciavarello drafted checks, made deposits, and made purchases with the company's credit card. During that time she swapped employee checks for cash. She also failed to pay income tax, totaling $216,855.52.

Ciavarello was sentenced to three years and one month in federal prison, which is greater than current Federal Sentencing Guidelines. She also must pay more than $1 million in restitution, including the total of embezzled money, overdue taxes, and Social Security benefits.
