The attitude is much
different at St. Albans camp this year mainly because the Red Dragons
have a new head coach. Steve Stoffel Jr. Comes to St. Albans after being the
offensive coordinator for 16 years at Herbert Hoover.
"I couldn't be more
happy than to be involved with this team and community right here, Stoffel
said. "This is an opportunity that
I looked forward to and IT was presented itself to me, and I'm looking forward
to bring some energy, some fun, and some excitement back to this program, and
hopefully to this town and school."
The Red Dragons have
struggled going 7-23 in the last three years. But coach Stoffel is telling his
guys not dread on the past.
"We can't control
what happen prior to my date coming here," he said. "But I tell the kids and parents all the
time that we want to start fresh. It's a clean slate. Forget the past, let's
build a new foundation and move this program in the right direction."
The Red Dragons are
loaded with seniors and juniors so the experience is there for St. Albans to be the surprise team
from the Kanawha Valley this fall.
"I think we're
experienced," St. Albans senior left tackle Zach Leftridge said. "Most
of the seniors we have, have started since they were sophomores and freshman.
We definitely have the experience so we know what we're doing."
With St. Albans' recent dreadful past,
teams could be overlooking the Red Dragons, but if that's the case, Leftridge
is okay with that.
"People are
doubting us so we have something to prove, so I think we're getting it
done," Leftridge added. "So I
think we can prove what we can do."
