Emotional goodbye to former WVSU baseball player

Posted: Updated:

Last week Trooper Eric Workman was shot and killed while making a traffic stop off I-79 in Wallback. But the man behind the badge revealed an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing whenever he could, he was also a heck of a baseball player. After an All State baseball career at Clay County High, he played baseball at West Virginia State where he earned second team All American honors. Today Workman's former coach Cal Bailey spoke on behalf of the family about his former star, and what he saw in the young man when he recruited him.

"The very first sign that I saw in Eric was how he treated his family. The respect and interaction." said an emotional Bailey, "The next observation is when they played the National Anthem. Eric would stand erect and respect the flag. Thank you lord for allowing us to have Eric 26 years. Eric, you have made a difference."
