UPDATE: names released after deadly ATV crash in Wayne County

Herbert Estep and his wife, Elsie, were killed when their ATV crashed on Thursday morning in a remote area of Wayne County. According to State Police, Herbert Estep was driving the ATV when he lost control of the vehicle and it hit a tree head-on.

Their grandson, 20-year-old Christopher Kinder was also a passenger on the ATV. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition on Thursday night according to State Police.

Authorities said the trio was headed into the woods, along an old gas line, near Mountain Home Cemetery when the accident happened. State Police said that they were planning to harvest ginseng.

Two people are dead after a massive search and rescue effort in Wayne County.

Authorities confirmed to 13 News that two people have died near Little Harts Creek in an ATV accident. More than 50 people were involved in the search for the two people, whose identity has not been released.


Troopers part of the Wayne County detachment of the West Virginia State Police are on the scene of a search and rescue in Wayne County near Little Harts Creek and Frances Creek.

According to Wayne County 911, the call came in around 9:30 a.m. reporting an ATV accident.

According to dispatchers, one person has been transported.

No other information was available.
