A family escaped a fire that damaged their home in Putnam County on Wednesday afternoon.
It happened at a house on Circle Drive in Hurricane.
A father, son and grandson live in the home. The teenage grandson was inside when the fire broke started, but he was able to get himself and a dog out. A cat was still Wednesday evening.
A neighbor who tried to help said he did everything he could to keep the fire from spreading. "I drove down there and saw a lawn chair on fire on the back deck. I took a bucket of water and tried to put it out. The spicket and stuff wasn't working so I couldn't get water so I run over here to get water and by the time I got over here the fire was already in the attic," said Paul Campbell.
Crews were able to get the fire out before it destroyed the home, but the attic and roof were badly burned.
An investigation is under way to determine what started the fire.
