On Thursday afternoon, CONSOL Energy employee William Edward Mock, 61, sustained serious injuries at the Blacksville No. 2 Mine. CONSOL said that Mock was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and later succumbed to those injuries.

Initial indications are that he was struck by a rock along the track haulage, but the company hasn't released any other details about the incident.

State and federal mining officials are investigating.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of our deceased employee during this difficult time," said CONSOL spokesperson Lynn Seay.

The West Virginia Office of Miners Health Safety and Training has confirmed a CONSOL Energy employee died Thursday at the Blacksville No. 2 Mine, located in Greene County, PA.

CONSOL media officials said the miner was struck by a rock along the track haulage.

CONSOL Energy said it has notified state and federal mine safety officials and is working closely with them to determine the cause of the incident.

Monongalia County EMS, along with Greene County EMS, responded to the scene.

CONSOL Energy isn't releasing any further details at this time.
