The Charleston Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that happened early Thursday morning.

The robbery was reported at an ATM on Virginia Street East shortly after midnight, according to police.

A 65-year-old man was trying to get money out of the ATM when two black men approached his car, police said. The men were wearing dark colored hoodies and had black masks covering their face.

One robber had a handgun and demanded the victim's ATM card and personal identification number, police said.

The robbers could not get money out of the ATM and drove the victim to another bank on the West Side.  They could not get money out of that ATM either, police said. The robbers forced the victim into the back of the car and beat him in the face.

The men then dropped the victim off on the side of the drove and drove off in his car, police said.

The victim had lacerations around his left eye, head, and ears, investigators said.

He was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

Police are still looking for the robbers and the victim's car.  It's a 2011 silver Honda Accord.  The licence plate number is 9UC 363.
