Republican West Virginia Supreme Court candidate Allen Loughry has been endorsed by the coal industry.
The West Virginia Coal Association PAC announced Sept. 20 its endorsement of Loughry. Justice Robin Davis, a Democrat, is the only other candidate to receive an endorsement from the PAC. Loughry has been a lawyer for the Supreme Court for the past nine years and holds four law degrees. Before working with the Supreme Court, Loughry practiced law as a senior assistant attorney general, arguing more than 20 cases before the state's highest court.
Loughry said he is pleased to accept the endorsement.
"This endorsement reflects the courage of its members to seek positive change in the state's business and industry climate and its confidence in my candidacy," Loughry said in a statement. "I am humbled to know that, as the leading trade organization for our state's primary industry, the Coal Association believes that I will provide the fairness and impartiality that all West Virginia businesses and private citizens deserve."
The Coal Association said in its endorsement of Loughry they appreciate his work for the state's energy and extractive programs and looks forward to working with him on future energy and coal programs.
Loughry is facing Davis, Democrat Tish Chafin and Republican John Yoder in the Nov. 6 election to fill two empty seats on the bench.
