A Kanawha County school celebrated it's 50th anniversary on Wednesday.
Shoals Elementary hosted a party with former staff members, students and people from around the community. Tours of the school were given, along with free refreshments.
"This building is always alive with everybody in the community, giving their time and energy to make sure that the children succeed and that the teachers are happy. It's a great place to be," said Tonya Baird, a 2nd grade teacher at Shoals Elementary.
In addition to the birthday, the school was also celebrating being named a West Virginia School of Excellence this year.
