The West Virginia University Extension Service in Putnam County held a meeting Thursday evening to talk about farming and food.
They met with farmers, youth group leaders and school officials to discuss the "farm to school program". It aims to promote the use of local produce and meats from local farmers in our local schools.
Officials said it not only provides healthier food options for students, it also keeps the money we spend on food right here in our local economy.
Students participating in the program will work with local farmers to learn the process of getting the food from the ground to the lunch tray.
