UPDATE: Arrest made in west Dunbar shooting

An arrest has been made in relation to the Thursday morning shooting in Institute, according to a detective with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Dept.

Franklin Beverly, 31, from Dunbar, was arrested for malicious wounding.

Beverly shot Joe Green, also from Dunbar, multiple times, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Dept.

Beverly told investigators that he shot Green because Green had smacked his girlfriend's stomach about one week ago.

Beverly's girlfriend is pregnant.

Beverly walked into an apartment on Smoot Avenue around noon and began an altercation with Green before shooting him multiple times.

Green was taken to CAMC General and is in serious condition. His friends told 13News that Green was released from surgery before 5:00 p.m., and he is alive at this time.

Beverly will face up to five years in jail and up to $500 in fines.

Bond was set at $100,000.



Officers are interviewing a person of interest related to a Thursday morning shooting, according to Capt. B.C. Robbins with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Dept.

Initial reports said the shooting occurred in Institute, but the latest reports put it in West Dunbar.

The shooting took place inside an apartment on Smoot Avenue around 11:48 a.m. Thursday. The apartment complex, as a whole, has historically been a hotbed for drug trafficking, according to Capt. Robbins. 

Deputies are still investigating a motive behind this shooting.

According to a police report, the victim was shot multiple times. Witnesses told 13News that the victim was shot at close range.

The condition of the victim is unknown. Capt. Robbins added deputies have dealt with the victim in the past.
