Two people are charged with felony child neglect after police say they left a small child alone in a car for more than an hour.
Milton police responded to a burglary call on Summers Addition road Wednesday.
The caller said the suspect was still in the area and was driving a white Oldsmobile Alero.
An officer spotted a car matching the description on Mason street and approached the vehicle after watching it unattended for a half hour.
He noticed a small child in the back seat covered with sweatshirts.
The officer made contact with two suspects and asked them why they left a child in an unsecured car in thirty degree weather.
They said the child was asleep and they were at the residence looking for someone who owed them money.
The officer talked with the Mason street resident who said the suspects were inside for more than an hour and had not mentioned the child in the car.
Police arrested Harold Kirk and Tifani Finley of Boone county charging them with felony child neglect.
Both were arraigned in Cabell county Magistrate court and bond was set at $50,000 each.
Police say with the child being left in the car for that long in such cold temperatures losing body heat, it could have resulted in bodily harm to the child.
Both are in Western Regional Jail.
