Staffing shortage strains South Hills Fire Department in Kanawha County

The sign outside the South Hills Fire Department says it is closed today.

According to the Fire Chief, other fire stations will have to cover the area today after a shortage of employees forced them to close.

The Fire Chief says they're shorthanded three people after three of his men retired last week, and the City has a hiring freeze on the Department.

The nearest station is about five miles away.

 

Every other station is covered today.
