Boone County Sheriff's Deputies witness puppy being thrown from truck

Posted: Updated:

Two Boone County Sheriff's deputies saw someone throw a puppy from a truck on October 14.

The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. as the deputies were traveling north on Route 94 near Lens Creek Mountain.

Deputies McCarty and Keadle stopped to treat the puppy's wounds as it bled from its nose and mouth. They then drove the animal to Animal Emergency Clinic in South Charleston.

The emergency room veterinarians treated the puppy for free. The office manager said the clinic has received dozens of calls from people asking to adopt the puppy. The animal is still being treated at the facility.

The deputies described the truck as a single-cab older model Ford or Dodge with a distinct yellow paint job.  At the time of the incident, the truck had a load of junk in the back.

According to local residents, this is not the first time the truck has thrown puppies from the vehicle.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is seeking information about the truck and requests that anyone with information call 304-369-7346.

Another Boone County deputy told 13News that they are looking for the suspect(s) and could make an arrest as early as Thursday.
