The field has been narrowed from 141 to 20 in the 2012-2013 West Virginia Statewide Business Plan Competition.

The 20 semi-finalist teams in two categories — Lifestyle & Innovation and Hospitality & Tourism — come from five schools, according to the West Virginia University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which hosts the competition.

Business ideas submitted by teams from Concord University, Glenville State College, Marshall University, Shepherd University and West Virginia University have advanced to the second round of the competition.

The second round requires competing teams to submit business feasibility summaries, provide two-minute ‘elevator pitches' on their proposed businesses and participate in face-to-face interviews with business and industry professionals who are serving as judges.
