NEW MARTINSVILLE (AP) — A new state study shows that arts education in high school can improve students' proficiency in other subjects.

That finding and other results will be released Monday by state Schools Superintendent Jorea Marple during an arts class at Magnolia High School.

The Department of Education conducted the study. Its release kicks off Marple's 2012 School Arts Tour. She plans to visit other school art programs in Wetzel, Marshall and Ohio counties this week.
